FAQ

What is Massage Therapy?
In BC, there are massage practitioners, or bodyworkers, and registered massage therapists (RMT). As a therapy and science, massage therapy positively affects the muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems of the body to rehabilitate physical injuries and improve health. Registered massage therapy is a leading form of natural health care.

Is There a Difference?
There are a number of beneficial forms of massage and natural health programs. In British Columbia, one of the leading forms of natural health care is registered massage therapy. Our massage therapists (RMT) are registered in the Province and are recognized health care practitioners under the Province’s Medicare Program (MSP). They undergo extensive, formal training of more than 3,000 hours before entering the workforce, which makes them some of the most highly trained massage professionals in the world. Our governing body is the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia , which you can visit at www.cmtbc.bc.ca

What Should I Expect At The Clinic?
Massage is most beneficial when the treatment area is not encumbard with clothing or undergarments. If you are booked for a full-body massage, you will have to remove your clothing. Lower undergarments can be left on or taken off, or if you’d like, a sport top and shorts may be worn – whatever you’re most comfortable with.

You will be covered, or ‘draped’, with sheets throughout the entire treatment.

Our therapists are registered health professionals that adhere to the highest ethical standards. They will ensure your complete comfort as well as privacy during the massage treatment.

How Much Will It Cost?

Yes, however, the clinic is opted-out so you will be responsible for the full payment of your treatment. In these cases, reimbursement can be conditional and / or controlled. Check with your insurance representative or adjuster for clarification and the treatment plan options open to you.

For whiplash victims, massage therapy is most beneficial if treatment is started within 72 hours of the accident.

Am I Covered Under My Extended Health Plan?
Yes. Registered massage therapy is a health service covered under most extended health care plans in BC. The terms of these plans vary, but it is common for coverage to be about 80% up to an annual maximum of $500. Check with your plan administrator for coverage details.

With Blue Cross, the terms of your company’s plan are available on the Blue Cross website. Check at www.bluecross.ca and select your Province.

Do I require a Doctor’s Note?
No, however, some insurance claims may require a doctor’s referral. In these cases, check with your adjuster for clarification.

What About Cell Phones?
Please turn your cell phone and PDA off. As well as being respectful to our other clients, you will get more out of the treatment if your phone doesn’t ring or vibrate in the middle of your massage.
